What is the difference between emunah and bitachon? Emunah is the belief that we have that Hashem does everything, that he’s the one in charge. Knowing that everything Hashem does is good, and comes from His love and compassion. Bitachon is bringing that belief into one’s day to day life, actually using it in real life. While he was driving, he played songs from the Bitachon Hotline and listened to the yesodos. He said, “Hashem can get me the siddur.” When he arrived at the kever, he met his Rebbe who had come from out of town. His Rebbe said, “On the way here, someone gave me a siddur and I don’t need it. R’ Segal,* from England, said that he’s the cook in a camp, and last year the campers weren’t very happy with his food. This year, he decided to try something new. The oven in the Lieberman house was not working. They were pressing all the buttons, but it was not turning on. Rabbi Lieberman said that he was going to need to unscrew it to see what was going on. Mrs. Weber’s husband learns in kollel. She worked and supported him, but recently it became too hard for her to continue working, and she needed to stop. She had no idea how her husband was going to continue learning. She said to herself, “Hashem was the one who supported us until now. According to reports, there’s a Yid in Eretz Yisrael who was very sick. The doctors gave up on him. They said that he had three more days to live. The man decided to dedicate those three days to singing praises to Hashem! That’s what he did. At the end of the three days, he felt all his strength come back to him, and he jumped out of bed! Rabbi Yehuda Mandel is a Rebbe in YTT. They gave him a key for the front door, and they told him, “Make sure not to lose it!” He lost the key, and he couldn’t find it. He said, “You think I need that key? I’ll just take a different key.” He took a different key and it worked! Rabbi Mandel said that other people tried with other keys, but their keys didn’t work. Mrs. Weinberg had an eye doctor’s appointment with her child, and she was running late. She called up and asked if the doctor could still see them, because they were running late. The receptionist said that if she could come within seven minutes then yes. Otherwise, nothing doing. Mrs. Weinberg thought to herself, “The doctor said seven minutes, and he’s very firm about it.” She was thinking, “There’s no way I’m going to get there in seven minutes. If I rush, it’s going to rob me of my menuchas hanefesh and simchas hachaim. That’s not proper hishtadlus.” She said to herself that she would go calmly. She went calmly, and she said to herself, “While I’m having Bitachon, not only are they going to take me, they’re going to be nice to me! They’re going to be friendly, easy-going and geshmak!” When she came to the office, even though she was late, the secretary said, “Wow, it’s so amazing you came. Mrs. Moskowitz* is a teacher in Lakewood. One night, her husband came home from Yeshiva not feeling well. He said he was feeling shvach and nauseous. He said, “Oh, my chavrusa just had shigella, and I probably caught it. He was out for a few days.” The first thing his wife thought was, “Oh no. Now my husband is going to be out for a few days, and my children are going to catch it.” Then she said, “One second. I don’t believe in cause and effect. I don’t believe in nature. I don’t believe in teva. I believe in “Hamechadesh bituvo bchol yom tamid.” Every second is a new world. Her husband went to sleep, and he woke up perfect! No symptoms. He was had all his kochos; he felt amazing!
