Daily Bitachon #1873

This story was called in by a Mrs. Snyder who was suffering from a terrible headache. It was going from bad to worse, and it wasn’t letting up – and she couldn’t find the Tylenol. “What should I do?” she thought. “My headache is getting worse, and I can’t do anything about it.” She decided to call the “Life of Bitachon Hotline” and listen to the Yesod of that day. This is what she heard: ‘If someone tells you that they had a headache and took Tylenol and then they felt better, you wouldn’t be surprised. You’d say, “What’s the big chiddush? Of course you feel better after taking Tylenol! Isn’t that how it’s supposed to work?” “But if someone tells you, “I had a splitting headache, and I said to Hashem, ‘I’m turning to You. The same Hashem Who gave me a headache can make it go away.’ And right after I said that, my headache disappeared.” You would respond, “What?? Really? I can’t believe it worked!” “Well, you know why it’s like that? Because in most people’s eyes, Tylenol is real – it’s tangible. It works according to the laws of nature that follow cause and effect. HaKadosh Boruch Hu is more of an abstract concept; it’s a name in the siddur, as Rabbi Avigdor Miller says. “In reality, it’s exactly the opposite. The only reason you feel better if you take Tylenol is because Hashem decreed that you should feel better. You’re better off going straight to the Source and asking Hashem to heal you directly, without any physical cause and effect.” Mrs. Snyder was shocked! This was exactly her problem, and she felt she was getting a direct message from Hashem! She began thinking, “What should I be saying to myself? I think I should say “Who cares if I can’t find my Tylenol! Hashem, it’s You who is in charge of making me feel better. You can take away the pain with or without Tylenol.” Amazingly, after just a few minutes of strengthening herself in Emunah and Bitachon, she suddenly noticed that her headache was getting better. In no time, she started feeling totally perfect, without taking a single pill!
