Fill Your Bank with Chessed!

Rabbi Golombeck was in Santander Bank waiting in line, and there was a Heimeshe Yid behind him. Rabbi Golombeck told him, “I know time is precious to every Yid, but you should just know that I’m going to be very quick. I am making one transaction, and I’ll be out before you know it.” The other yid said to Rabbi Golombeck, “You know what? I appreciate you telling me that so much. I’ll tell you why. You show that you care about me and you care about my time. You realize that we’re waiting in line. Some people could take a long time, they can make five transactions, and it could take 10 minutes. Now I’m calmer because I know it’s going to be just a couple of minutes. You gave me more menuchas hanefesh. You didn’t have to tell me this, but you made me feel so good.” You see how important it is to think of ways to make people happier and more than that, because he said thank you so much,  it made Rabbi Golombeck feel so good that he did something good! Megillah Marathon

Hillel Akilav is a talmid of Rabbi Golombeck.  His yeshiva had an off-Shabbos for Purim, so he went home to Queens. He spent his Purim going from hospital room to hospital room leining Megillah for every single person who wanted. He did house calls, went to sick patients, and even went to nursing homes! He said that he leined for so many people that day that he couldn’t even keep track of how many people it was! Can you imagine? That’s how he spent his whole Purim day! While he was in the hospital, a non-religious family heard him leining Megillah for somebody else. “Can you also read the Megillah for us?” they asked him. “We don’t want to miss out just because we’re not religious. We know this is what Hashem wants us to do. So we want to do it. We want to make Hashem happy.” He leined for a non-frum family because they didn’t want to feel left out by not doing a mitzvah!!   Read more: Just in Time!

Proud to Be a Jew!

R’ Eliezer Hess gives a Daf Yomi shiur in Roberts shul. After Shacharis on Purim, he was collecting in the shul. Someone in the corner of Shul gave him some money, but at the time, he didn’t chap how much he had given him. Afterward, he checked the amount and saw that he had received a thousand dollars in cash. He was surprised by the amount and realized that he had forgotten to say a proper thank you; he hadn’t realized that it was such a large sum of money. He didn’t even know who the person was; he had never met the person in his life. He went over to the gabbai of the shul and asked him if he knew who that person was that had been sitting in the corner. The gabbai said, “No, why?” He said, “I want to thank him! He gave me $1,000!” The gabbai said that he would check the video cameras of the shul. They checked the video cameras, and the gabbai said, “Oh, he is the son of someone who lives a few houses down.” R’ Eliezer wanted to show his hakaras hatov. He went to the man’s house and told him that he wanted to speak to his son because he wanted to say thank you. His son came to the door, and R’ Eliezer said, “Thank you so much! You don’t even know me, and you gave me a thousand dollars!” The son said, “It’s matanos l’evyonim, what’s the big deal? And I forgot, I only gave for myself. I have to give for my wife. Here’s another thousand!” Read More: Am Yisrael is Amazing
